The Regional Transportation Authority recently completed a survey on the RTA Next draft plan approved by the RTA Board in late September for public input. More than 2,300 people participated in the survey.
While the survey is closed, the public can still review the draft plan and project list online at RTANext.com and submit comments via the online comment form until a final version is approved by the RTA Board.
“We saw great levels of participation on the recent survey but that’s not the last say,” said RTA Executive Director Farhad Moghimi. “We encourage everyone to get acquainted with the draft 20-year, $2.4 billion plan and provide their input. The public’s input will help the RTA Board make final adjustments to the plan for future voter consideration of this multi-year plan development effort.”
The RTA Next 20-year draft plan outlines regional roadway, transit, environmental, safety, ADA, active transportation (bicycle and pedestrian) and arterial reconstruction improvements in the greater Tucson region.
A breakdown of proposed spending for each of the draft plan’s improvement elements includes:
- Roadway corridors – $1.44 billion
- Safety and Active Transportation – $206.8 million
- Transit – $610 million
- Environmental – $25 million
- Arterial roadway reconstruction – $20 million
The RTA Board may decide to hold an election at a future date for Pima County voters to consider the draft plan and a countywide RTA half-cent sales tax to fund it.
