Greg Byres, P.E., has joined Pima Association of Governments as its new Deputy Executive Director. PAG, a metropolitan planning organization for the greater Tucson region, manages the Regional Transportation Authority, which oversees implementation of a 20-year, tax-funded regional transportation plan.

In addition to most recently serving as the Arizona Department of Transportation Deputy Director, Byres served several other roles with ADOT and previously owned and operated an engineering consulting firm in New Mexico.
“As we ramp up RTA project activity with the recent voter approval of Props 418 and 419, Greg brings a diverse background in project delivery,” said PAG-RTA Executive Director Michael J. Ortega, P.E. “We are putting together an advance delivery team and are hyper-focused on working with our member jurisdictions to accelerate project delivery over the next five years. Greg has used different alternative delivery methods and can apply his great depth of knowledge to keep projects on pace as we promised to Pima County voters.”
Byres has over 40 years of experience in civil engineering and transportation, including over 10 years with ADOT and nearly 10 years of owning his own engineering firm. His leadership experience includes project delivery of roadways, airports, utilities, site development, land development, and various other projects.
He has been a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers since 1995 and the American Society of Civil Engineers since 1997.
