Officials with Pima County and the City of Tucson, Arizona Department of Transportation and Regional Transportation Authority met in April to commemorate the completion of the Sunset Links Road connection.

Funded in part through the 2006, voter-approved RTA plan, Sunset Links Road, Silverbell Road to River Road, creates a connection between Silverbell and River roads. The project included an ADOT-funded interchange at Interstate 10, with bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad and Rillito River. A bridge over the Santa Cruz River was completed earlier.

The final project includes three to four traffic lanes with a median, a signalized intersection at River Road, bike lanes, sidewalks and a multi-use path. In addition, there will be connections to Pima County’s Chuck Huckelberry Loop on both sides of the Rillito River, both sides of the Santa Cruz River, and near the intersection of Sunset Road and I-10 Frontage Road.

The project represents the combined planning work and financial resources of four agencies – the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), RTA, City of Tucson and Pima County. The collaboration allowed the integration of both Sunset projects on either side of I-10 with ADOT’s Sunset Links Road interchange.
