Five-year transportation program approved

The Pima Association of Governments’ Regional Council approved the FY 2022-2026 Transportation Improvement Program following a public hearing May 27, 2021.

The TIP is produced every two years and details the transportation projects to be constructed in Pima County by all local jurisdictions and the state in the coming five-year period. Each project is listed by the agency constructing it, funding sources, years of proposed funding and other details.

“The TIP addresses improvements to diverse elements of the regional transportation system including national, state and regional roadways, transit, aviation, ridesharing, bikeways and pedestrian facilities. The TIP also responds to various state and federal regulatory requirements – including transportation legislation such as the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act – for the development of a transportation improvement program in conformance with air quality implementation plans,” the document explains.

The TIP development process involves the local jurisdictions, plus state and federal agencies. More than 14 public meetings of PAG committees addressed various stages of the TIP development in the past year.

After it was completed, the draft was available for public review and comment in April and May for 30 days. During that time, PAG staff received approximately 64 comments via a web form or email and held two public open houses with approximately 65 attendees.

The final document reflects changes made after jurisdiction and public feedback.
