The greater Tucson region was awarded $11.7 million in federal funding by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) toward regional transportation safety projects.
Pima Association of Governments, the region’s metropolitan planning organization, submitted applications to ADOT for a competitive selection process.
ADOT awarded the dollars from the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) to go toward projects identified in Pima County, the City of Tucson and Town of Marana that intend to help reduce traffic fatalities.
The projects were selected by ADOT as those that met the necessary requirements and provided the best overall ability to improve safety such as flashing yellow arrow installations, signalized pedestrian crossings (HAWKs), street lighting, intersection signalization, and for sign panel replacement.
“Thanks to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and ADOT for their ongoing support of our region. This investment in safety shows PAG’s and our partners’ continued commitment to reducing crashes in the region,” said Marana Mayor Ed Honea, chair of the PAG Regional Council.
