General Description:
Under general supervision, the Transportation Planner/Senior Transportation Planner is responsible for work in the collection, analysis and presentation of data, and in the development and implementation of various studies and plans. This position serves as project manager for assigned projects. Work requires considerable personal initiative, sound independent judgment and ability to develop consensus among diverse stakeholders in resolving regional transportation planning and programming issues.

Examples of Duties:
- Develop and perform research and/or specialized analyses to prepare technical reports and briefings.
- Attend and/or represent PAG at meetings, hearings and conferences related to the work of this position.
- Serve as staff lead for a variety of meetings including coordination of jurisdictional representatives, preparation of agendas, and summarizing of meeting content.
- Act as project manager and/or primary support staff and/or provide support and assistance for projects as assigned, such as, but not limited to:
- The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), a short-term capital improvement program
- The Regional Mobility and Accessibility Plan (RMAP), the region’s federally required long-range transportation plan
- Freight, rail planning and economic development transportation issues
- Title VI issues and regional compliance
- Performance-based planning and programming
- The congestion management process (CMP)
- Transportation operations planning/coordination including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), regional signal coordination and pavement management programs
- Transportation safety planning
- Coordinate and oversee PAG’s annual bicycle and pedestrian count and analyze the results
- Attending the Tucson-Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee on behalf of PAG and providing updates as needed
- Assist in the formulation, modification and implementation of related transportation studies and plans
- Provide technical assistance to various PAG committees, subcommittees and task forces as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and to provide guidance to others as needed.
- Ability to perform quantitative analyses, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Outstanding communication skills both orally and in writing as well.
- Ability to manage assigned projects from conception to completion.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to transportation planning and programming.
- Knowledge of the structure, role, and interests of PAG member jurisdictions and their decision-making bodies.
- Knowledge of local development patterns and history, especially as they relate to the location, travel patterns, and social services needs of special population groups.
- Knowledge of computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to prepare documents, reports, and perform quantitative analysis.
- Knowledge of GIS applications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises staff as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Transportation Planner
At a minimum, requires a combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform duties and either a graduate degree in a related field with 1 years of experience, or an undergraduate degree with three years of related experience, or equivalent.
Senior Transportation Planner
At a minimum, requires a combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform duties and either a graduate degree in a related field with 2 years of experience, or an undergraduate degree with four years of related experience, or equivalent.

Telework:
- This position is eligible for telework. Telework arrangements must comply with PAG’s telework policies, requiring a minimum of two days a week (unless other considerations make this infeasible) in-office to perform required office assignments and duties.
