Pima Association of Governments has opened a 30-day public comment period for an update to its long-term transportation plan.
The Regional Mobility and Accessibility Plan, or RMAP, is a performance-based transportation plan with a 25- to 30-year outlook. The plan supports a safe and efficient transportation network across the Tucson metropolitan area and is a requirement for the region to annually access millions of dollars in federal and state transportation funding.
Updates made to the plan reflect changes in demographics, land use and travel demand, and financial projections. The RMAP identifies funding sources for each project and program, including the half-cent sales tax approved by Pima County voters in 2006 to fund the Regional Transportation Authority plan. Other sources of funding include federal and state gas taxes.
Federal law requires PAG to update the plan every four years. The RMAP identifies a list of anticipated transportation projects and needs across various modes and an equal amount of anticipated funding during the plan period.
Projects from the RMAP, including RTA projects, are eventually identified in PAG’s five-year transportation improvement program, where project planning, design and construction of projects gets under way with available funding.
The 30-day public comment period for the 2055 RMAP opened Saturday, June 14, 2025. Copies of the 30-year draft transportation plan and comment forms are available at PAG’s office located at:
1 E. Broadway Blvd., Suite 401
