The fiscal year 2023-24 annual reports for both PAG and the RTA will be presented at the first meeting of the governing bodies in 2025. The annual reports also will be available online at PAGregion.com and RTAmobility.com.

Before the end of the year, however, the RTA publishes an advertisement in two local newspapers, the Arizona Daily Star and the Green Valley News, to share a summary report of financial and project data for the past year. The RTA manages a 20-year regional transportation plan and half-cent sales tax Pima County voters approved in 2006.

Each of the reports presents a look to the year ahead as well.

Pima Association of Governments

PAG, which is a metropolitan planning organization for the Tucson metro area, also serves as a federally designated Transportation Management Agency.

The PAG annual report focuses on our role as a repository of regional data, which we, our member jurisdictions and the private sector use to guide important planning and decision making.

The report outlines how the data PAG collects informs and inspires in areas such as:

  • Traffic count data that show traffic flows, levels of usage, and driver behaviors.
  • Building permit data that informs population modeling and estimates to anticipate growth patterns and to plan for housing, retail, transportation and utility infrastructure.
  • Orthophotos and LiDAR images that provide granular level information about land use, natural resources, and environmental assets that help regional planners and the private sector envision future development.
  • Data from public surveys, public engagement feedback, and social media comments can provide insights about the preferences of our community.

Regional Transportation Authority

The RTA, which is managed by PAG, is a state-established political subdivision and taxing district within Pima County.

The forthcoming RTA annual report provides the public with updates to the four elements of the $2.1 billion transportation plan, which include:

  • Roadway projects
  • Safety
  • Transit
  • Environmental and economic vitality

In addition, new RTA project maps will demonstrate the progress of the plan. The annual report also provides a brief history of the development of the RTA plan beginning in the early 2000s.

Both the plan and tax are effective through June 2026. Relying on annual sales tax collections averaging more than $100 million, more than $1.6 billion in RTA investments have been made to date in regional transportation improvements.

Both PAG and the RTA are governed by a nine-member board with chief elected officials from Pima County, the cities of South Tucson and Tucson; the towns of Marana, Oro Valley and Sahuarita; the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Tohono O’odham Nation and the governor-appointed Pima County representative on the Arizona State Transportation Board.
