How do Pima County residents travel daily? Are people walking, biking, driving, carpooling or using public transit? Pima Association of Governments, the greater Tucson area’s metropolitan planning organization, wants to know. PAG conducts transportation, air quality, water management and economic vitality planning.
To better plan for the region’s future transportation needs, PAG is conducting a Household Travel Study and Assessment. Over the next few months, around 5,000 randomly selected households will be asked to participate and share their travel behaviors, with a chance to earn up to $100 in rewards per household.
Study participants will record their travel details for a day, including travel stops, modes of transportation, vehicle occupancy, and trip lengths. This data will help inform planning to improve the region’s infrastructure, from roadways and public transit to pedestrian paths and bike lanes.
Individual responses are confidential and will be used in aggregate for long-term planning to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion as well as enhance regional air quality. The results will inform decisions about which transportation projects to prioritize for better connectivity and easier commuting. PAG is partnering with ETC Institute to conduct the household study.
